NCAA BASKETBALL – 1.21.2020 – Best Bets for Tuesday’s College Hoops (Free)

Hello Daily Play Action! Anthony Marro here happy to share my NCAA Men’s Basketball picks for the entire college season. Last year I was able to supply over 300 picks against the spread and finish the season cashing at a rate of just about 59%. As March Madness approached and I was brought on to write for DPA, readers were treated to a 45-27-2 record of sides and totals over the final month of the season. This season, betting write-ups will posted exclusively on DPA almost every day but be sure to follow my Twitter too so you won’t miss a pick on days with abbreviated slates.

  • Current Season Record: 161-148-4
  • Previous Season Record: 180-127-9

Illinois vs Purdue, Under 126.5

  • Big Ten teams have been dominating at home and Purdue is only winning games where their defense plays near perfect. Here in West Lafayette I am expecting a very slow tempo game where the first team to 60 is victorious. We are getting great value at this number
  • These two combined for just 100 points in their first meeting this season. Purdue could not make a shot in that contest and Illinois did not do a whole lot better. Only three players scored double digits in that game and I do not expect anybody new to chime in for either side
  • Matt Haarms is probably worth ten points to the total and is fully healthy for today’s game. He is going to be looking for revenge after a Maryland game where he was completely shut down. Expect 25 minutes of suffocating defense from the big guy tonight

Butler +3 at Villanova

  • Butler was absolutely devastated by a two-loss week as they dropped eight spots in the AP Poll. This is not only a huge game for Butler’s national resume but a game you need to keep pace with Seton Hall in the Big East. This will be a too close a game to lose with the spread
  • Villanova jumped Butler in AP Ranking but that is about it. Butler is still ranked 7 in terms of NET rating while Villanova sits at 17. KenPom also ranks the Bulldogs significantly ahead of Villanova making it clear they are a far more talented team
  • Experience is going to be the deciding factor here and Butler has the significant edge. Villanova is on a four-game win streak in this series and on the season, both of which I think Kamar Baldwin will end tonight. I anticipate they win but play it safe and take the points here

Louisiana State -2.5 vs Florida

  • Obvious disclaimer here that I am an LSU fan. I try to be as unbiased as possible in my betting and very rarely will recommend the teams I root for. We won on the Tigers over on Saturday and will be going right back to them as they return home to Baton Rogue
  • This is a great spot in my opinion for LSU as they look to extend their conference record to a perfect 6-0 tonight. Florida is playing very deep basketball with few big-name players and it has worked so far. However, I do not think they have the shooting to keep this one close
  • I am confident the interior offense of LSU can create plenty of separation for us today. Skylar Mays and Trendon Watford are stars inside the paint but this team’s greatest strength is sharing the ball. Everyone will eat tonight for the Tigers as they continue to roll

Saint Joseph’s +12.5 vs Virginia Commonwealth

  • Another disclaimer, Saint Joseph’s is a 4-14 basketball team. This is not going to be the most comfortable sweat, but I think given the match up we can get a cover out of these Hawks. Ryan Daly has the shooting ability to tear this defense apart one shot at a time
  • Marcus Evans is going to play this game for VCU which downgrades this pick significantly for me. I still think we see a close contest but his availability gives the Rams a player that can legitimately score whenever he elects to. If he plays with no minutes restriction things could get a little too close for comfort
  • VCU is 5-13 against the spread this season and especially struggling while on the road. I think this Saint Joe’s squad playing host will have a shot at upsetting the Rams here. They play one of the toughest schedules in the country and are ready for another test

Texas A&M vs Missouri, Under 123.5

  • This number has been moving quite a bit, but I think we are still getting value on the under here. Both teams play very good defense and will be more motivated than usual as they each strive to avoid three straight losses. I expect a very low scoring affair
  • These teams are a combined 10-23 to the under on the season and are hitting totals in the 110s more often than almost anyone else. Not to mention the under has hit their last five meetings
  • Texas A&M plays at one of the slowest tempos in the country and certainly the slowest in the Southeastern Conference. Palpable Buzz Williams has taken a lot of pride in his defense but does not yet have the talent he needs to succeed with this College Station squad

Miami vs Duke, Over 149.5

  • It is one of the bigger overs, but it is also one of the best to bet. I think this prime time game is a great opportunity for Duke to reassert themselves after two consecutive losses. Their top five offense should have no trouble dropping 85 points or more on Miami
  • Jim Larranaga has put together the best Miami offense in the last four seasons this year in Coral Gables. The Hurricanes average 73 points per game and are ranked inside the Top 30 in terms of offensive efficiency. They should have no trouble scoring versus Duke
  • The past two seasons have been quick pace of play for Mike Krzyzewski and the Blue Devils. It seemed as if Clemson and Louisville beat Duke by slowing down the game to a tempo, they were less comfortable. They will adjust and be back to full speed here tonight

Let’s win today Playmakers! I am confident in every pick that I provide and play them myself. College basketball is unpredictable and that’s why we love it, so always bet smart!
