The Daily Diamond – 5.24 – Free KBO Slate Breakdown – FanDuel and DraftKings

209

Hey Playmakers!!! Nick Marro here with my KBO Breakdown for both DraftKings and FanDuel. Until the MLB returns, my focus will be on the Korean Baseball League. In addition to my Core-5 for each site, I’ve also provided you with my top Pitchers and Stacks for tonight/today’s slate which locks at 1:00 AM EST.

It’s been a while since we’ve had any Baseball DFS, so it’s important to remember the following. Stacks win tournaments, there’s a ton of variability, and variance can be your friend as ownership is often correlated to the lines/odds in Vegas. I recommend starting any line-up with a hitter stack and then building from there. We don’t yet have the quality Sabermetrics we do for the MLB, so we’re stuck relying on some older metrics in some cases. Regardless, it’s going to take some time to get used to this new league. The slate locks at 1:00 AM EST, so set an alarm if you’re playing for a lot of money and make sure your guys are in the line-up. If you have a recommendation for what you’d like to see in this article, just let me know!!!

Top Pitchers
Mike Wright/NC Starting P ($8,900/$27): This really isn’t a great slate in terms of pitching, making Wright my favorite arm by default. While it’s true he’s overdue for some regression (5.16 FIP vs. 1.69 ERA) I still think he’s a better option on a bad day than a lot of the other options are on a good day. Additionally, I don’t know that his step-back comes tonight as the Eagles are one of the weaker offenses in the KBO. Oddsmakers are backing him firmly here as a -250 favorite giving Hanwha a pathetic 2.9 Implied Team total. He’s expensive on FanDuel, but there’s no one else on this slate I’m really that comfortable with. Additionally, his K upside here should offset any Earned Runs. He’s my favorite arm on the board tonight, I like him everywhere.

Won-Tae Choi/Kiwoom Starting P ($9,500/$23): The DraftKings price on Choi is tough to get excited about, but I firmly believe Choi will perform better than what we’ve seen through his first 3 starts this season. Firstly, his 3.26 FIP is more than a point and a half lower than his 4.8 ERA. Additionally, his .340 BABIP allowed suggests he’s been a victim of some bad luck to start his 2020. Choi isn’t a big Strikeout guy, but his 7.2 K/9 is serviceable. Additionally, he comes into this one as a -230 favorite suggesting the Win Bonus for him here is all but guaranteed.

Min-Woo Lee/KIA Starting P ($7,000/$24):
After Wright, my second favorite arm on this slate is KIA’s Min-Woo Lee. Lee hasn’t been great this season, but he’s maintaining a solid 3.36 FIP and a decent 7.02 K/9. His biggest issues this season have been with pitch location, as is reflected by his terrible 3.78 BB/9. I think he’ll improve on that tonight though as he’ll be able to pitch more aggressively against a weak SK Wyverns offense. There’s no denying some risk is involved with rostering him here, but I really don’t like many of the other options on this slate. As a- 160 favorite he seems aligned for a Win bonus as well. He’s viable everywhere.

Also Consider: Chan-Gyu Lim/LG Starting P

Top Stacks (and who I’m targeting):
Note: Just like in MLB DFS, stacking is extremely important. Since the KBO has far fewer HRs than the MLB, ‘small ball’ can be your friend. Your one-off plays should either be excellent value – or guys were raw power (or stolen base) potential. Try your best to stack and double-stack using the following teams. From there feel free to use one-offs.

Kiwoom Heroes (KIW): Jun-won Seo is coming off two terrible starts in which he allowed 5 and 7 ER respectively. Kiwoom woke up in a big way last night, putting up 12 Runs, and I expect them to continue to build on that output here tonight. Byung-Ho Park (1B) is once again one of my favorite bats on the slate. He broke out of his slump last night with 2 HRs, and he’s still too cheap on both sites (especially FanDuel at $12). He’s my favorite piece of any Kiwoom stack, but I’m also excited to get some exposure to Jung-Hoo Lee (OF) and Ha-Seong Kim (SS) who have both looked excellent and both HR’d last night as well. If you’re needing value to tie things together I prefer catcher Dong-won Park (C), and Outfielder Taek-Keun Lee (OF) (assuming they make the line-up) as they’re both likely to be hitting in the middle of this order. I’m also high on Keon-Chang Seo (OF) for value at the top of the order in spite of his cold start. Hye-Sung Kim (2B/SS) and Joon-Tae Park (OF) are both quality punt plays here as well, as long as they make the line-up. These guys will be popular tonight, but they should be. I’m hoping their ownership is a bit lower than it should be with some of the other options we have on this slate.

Doosan Bears (DOO):  Doosan’s 7.8 Implied Run total is the highest number I think I’ve ever seen, KBO or otherwise. Tonight, they’ll be facing off against former Major-Leaguer David Buchanan, who hasn’t exactly found success yet in this league. Through 3 starts, Buchanan has allowed 15 ER and 4 HR. It’s worth noting that he did pitch a gem on the Road in his 2nd start against Kiwoom, so there’s a decent chance this might be a tougher match-up than it appears to be on paper. Still, I’d rather side with the bats here. It should come as no surprise, but Jose Fernandez (1B) is the top bat to own on this team. His price is climbing, but he continuously produces as one of the best hitters in this league. He’s a top priority for me everywhere tonight. After Fernandez, Jae-Hwan Kim (OF) appears to be healthy after an injury scare a couple of nights ago. Keep an eye on the line-up, but as long as he’s in he’s a strong play everywhere and the clear-cut #2 option on this team. Jae-Il Oh (1B) has missed his last three games, if he’s back tonight I’d prioritize him here as well (although I’m not too confident in that shaking out). Joo-Hwan Choi (1B/2B) is still too cheap on DraftKings with a potent bat in his own right. Kun-woo Park (OF) and Soo-Bin Jung (OF) are solid plays here as well and both worth prioritizing. If Jae-Won Oh (2B) or Jae-Ho Kim (SS) make the line-up they’re both excellent value options near minimum price. There’s really no wrong way to go when stacking this team. If a guy is in the Starting line-up for DOO, he’s in consideration for me everywhere. If you go this route it’s probably going to be worth waking up early and checking the line-ups. Hwang and Oh would both make nice options if they’re in, but that’s far from a guarantee. Catcher Se-Hyuk Park (C) is also viable everywhere.

NC Dinos (NCD): The Dinos’ Implied Run Total sits right around 6 Runs tonight, and they’re likely to come in lower-owned than both Doosan and Kiwoom. I also like them a lot here as their top-tier bats are most affordable. As long as he’s starting,  Eui-ji Yang (C) is my favorite bat in this stack. He has been sitting every night or so and with this being an earlier start time his status is something we’ll need to keep an eye on. After Yang, Sung Bum Na (OF) and Suk-min Park (3B) are my top priorities. Na is one of the premier bats in this league, and Park has looked excellent this season as a starter. Both are affordable and viable everywhere, and both present considerable upside. I’m happy to land on Aaron Altherr (OF) here as well, but he’s been slumping in a bad way lately. I like him much better on FanDuel as his DraftKings price feels too high, even here. I like Jin-Sung Kang (OF) as lower-owned outfield play if he’s starting.  Myung-Gi Lee (3B) and Min-woo Park (2B) both appeal to me here at the top of this order. Jin-Hyuk No (SS) is viable if he’s in the line-up. There are a lot of moving parts here so be sure whoever you select for this stack is indeed starting.
