The Daily Diamond | Core Picks | 7.2.18 DraftKings Main Slate

Hello Playmakers! Tonight we have a 9 game slate over on DraftKings which features the recently struggling Corey Kluber and Coors Field. Below we have five core plays along with some other suggested players for you to have a look at when making lineups for tonights slate.

P | Brent Suter | MIL | $6500

Opp: Minnesota Twins

Suter looks to continue consistency at home tonight.

The Brewers are starting up their series with the Minnesota Twins at Miller Park tonight. This may not seem like an ideal hitting environment however its one Brent Suter has done well in this season. To talk about the Twins first, they have about a 22% strikeout rate against lefties on the road with just a .309 wOBA and a. .142 ISO. The low ISO is particularly encouraging because Suter has mainly struggled with the HR ball in a hitter friendly park so if he is facing a team without much power he should be able to limit that. Suter generates a lot of medium contact and has about a 20% strikeout rate himself. At home his xFIP is 4.01 which isn’t amazing but for his price it’s quite good. Suter’s overall  consistency both in his performances and his price makes him a very appealing cash play today on DraftKings.

Other pitchers to consider: Corey Kluber, Nick Kingham, Luis Castillo

3B | Jose Ramirez | CLE | $5700

Jose Ramirez has a .355 ISO against RHP.

Jose Ramirez is the second highest priced bat on the slate today and it’s for a good reason. The Indians are getting a big park upgrade travelling from pitcher friendly Oakland to hitter neutral Kansas City. Ramirez will be facing starting righty Jakob Junis who has really been struggling against righties this season with the HR ball with a 2.48 HR/9 against righties. However against left handed bats he has a 5.16 xFIP and Ramirez will be taking his AB’s from the left side of the plate. Jose Ramirez has been absolutely mashing righties this season with 21 of his 24 HRs coming off righties giving him a whopping .355 ISO and 1.070 OPS against RHP.

1B | Joey Votto | CIN | $4800

The Reds continue their homestand tonight starting a new series up against the Chicago White Sox who will have James Shields on the mound. Shields is already hasn’t been great this season and gets a major park downgrade at Great American Ball Park. Against righties this season Votto has an obscene .417 wOBA and a .964 OPS. On the road against lefties this season Shields xFIP is 5.47 with a 48% fly ball rate. Votto has faced Shields 7 times in the past and has reached base in 5 of those plate appearances. In his very hitter friendly home park at a toasty 25% all those fly balls Shields is giving up to lefties on the road might finally come back to bite him when Votto comes to the plate tonight.

Other infield options: Edwin Encarnacion, Gleyber Torres, Manny Pina

OF | Andrew McCutchen | SF | $4700

Andrew McCutchen has had success at Coors Field.

The Giants are travelling to Coors Field tonight to face lefty Kyle Freeland and have a team implied run total of 5.6 which is tied for the highest mark on the slate. The first Giants bat we’ll be looking at tonight is Andrew McCutchen. Against lefties Cutch has been great this season with a .350 wOBA. He has had similar success against righties so should fair well against the righty relieves he will face. In 33 career games at Coors Field Andrew McCutchen has 19 RBI’s, a .442 OBP and an OPS thats over 1.000. Its a small sample size but he has had success here before and I expect that he will do well again here tonight despite his price increase.

OF | Gorkys Hernandez | SF | $3800

The other San Fran righty we’ll be looking at tonight is Gorkys Hernandez. At home facing right handed bats Kyle Freeland has a 4.60 xFIP and he hasn’t had much success against Gorkys Hernandez either. BvP is very much on Gorkys side here going 7 for 18 with a homerun, 3 walks, and just 2 strikeouts when facing Kyle Freeland. If he bats leadoff he should be a popular play in cash games tonight as one of the more reasonably priced Coors bats.

Other outfielder options: Michael Brantley, Scott Schebler, Lonnie Chisenhall
