Welcome to Week 17 edition of NFL Main Slate Stack Report for NFL Daily Fantasy Sports Contests. My name is CD Hill (@cdhill81 on Twitter), and as one of DPA’s NFL Gurus, I will once again stress the importance of correlation in your GPP rosters this weekend. As you know or if this is your first time reading this weekly piece, there are a few components that spotlight this particular strategy and that’s what this write-up concentrates on. In general, though, when one implements stacks, it is done by pairing players from the same team that are expected to score a lot of fantasy points. You will get a breakdown as to why I pick the players that I do, too, so you will get the rest of the details needed as to why I like those particular players. Now that all of my first time readers have an understanding of what’s coming their way in this article, best of luck this Sunday winning some money in whatever contests you join (that goes to my usual readers, too, of course), and let’s get down to business!
Note: This is just a heads up. Keep an eye on all of the players listed as Questionable (Q) in this article. Only consider going with that player if he’s listed as a starter before kickoff this Sunday.
RB | Carson Wentz with TE | Dallas Goedert &
WR | Greg Ward Jr. (Cash/GPP)
Carson Wentz has been playing great football in recent weeks averaging 318 passing yards and 2.7 passing TDs per game in three out of his past four games. He isn’t even one of the top 10 most expensive QBs to own either on DraftKings or FanDuel but he will be a very popular play, if not the most popular, on both DFS sites this Sunday. Greg Ward Jr. is still acting as the team’s top wideout now with so many of its regulars at WR hurt and has notably put up 5.5 receptions and 66 receiving yards per game in two out of his last three contests. Ward logged a TD catch in Week 15, and has the benefit of lining up against three rookie CBs that have all struggled immensely this season (Giants rank 2nd to last (31st) in DVOA vs the pass). Last week, Dallas Goedert sported a solid stat line finishing with nine catches for 91 yards and a TD score on 12 targets, and should once again be one of Wentz’s favorite targets this week with starting TE Zach Ertz (ribs, back) out of the lineup in a do or die game in Week 17. The Giants have done a good job limiting TEs this season (7th in FP vs TEs), but that didn’t stop Zach Ertz in Week 14, who popped off against NYG for 9 receptions on 13 targets for 91 yards and 2 TDs. With the increased market share Ward and Goedert will have with Ertz, Agholor and Jeffery all set to miss, we can count on concentrated volume to both Eagles skill players against a bad secondary. This Stack comes in as a sound GPP and Cash game stack considering the great matchup (especially for Wentz and Ward).
Green Bay Packers
QB | Aaron Rodgers with WR | Davante Adams (GPP)
RB | Aaron Jones with Green Bay Packers D/ST (Cash)
There are several Packers in good matchups with the Detroit Lions this Sunday. The Lions give up the second most passing yards and the fourth most passing touchdowns (tied with two other teams) in the league this year. They’ll also be playing on the road in Detroit’s dome in Week 17, so you don’t have to worry about the weather playing a factor in this contest. With that said, Green Bay still has a lot to play for in this slate. The Packers will do all they can to try and stay alive for the top seed in the NFC, which they can achieve with a win coupled with a 49ers loss at Seattle. With Jamaal Williams out, and the Packers as -12.5 favorites, Aaron Jones is in an amazing spot here. He’s coming off a game where he played the 2nd most snaps he’s played in the season (68%), and rushed 23 times for 154 yards and 2 TDs, while adding 2 receptions for a total of 32 DKP. We’ve seen Jones thrive with big workloads before, and the Lions defense has been terrible at containing opposing RBs (31st in FP allowed to RBs).
Rodgers threw for 283 yards and two scores (with one INT) in his last meeting with the Lions back in Week 6, but that came without Davante Adams who was hurt at the time. Adams should be able to do even more in this one. Adams has been terrific of late averaging 10 catches and 109.5 receiving yards per game in Weeks 15 and 16, and even grabbed a pass for a TD in Week 15. Sure, Adams will a popular play this week and will cost you a pretty penny, but Rodgers on the other hand, is only the fifth highest on the pOWN% listings on DraftKings and FanDuel and is only the fifth most expensive to play on DraftKings while coming in as the third highest on FanDuel. This Stack makes for a smart play in any kind of DFS contest you want to go with this week thanks to their considerable upside and solid floor, particularly Adams’, and should be a target in tournaments due to the increased motivation that the Packers have this week in a great matchup.
Note: You should also consider going with Green Bay Packers D/ST in this Stack. They’ve averaged four sacks and 1.5 interceptions per game in their last two contests and have only given up 11.5 points per game in that stretch. The Packers also face a Lions team in Week 17 that has only managed to average 13.7 points per game in their last three contests. Detroit’s offense is an absolute mess now thanks to them having no choice but to go with third-string QB David Blough once again this week. This D/ST will be a bit costly on FanDuel but they’re very reasonably priced at just $3K on DraftKings.
QB | Matt Ryan with WR | Julio Jones (Cash/GPP)
The Falcons enter Week 17 on a three-game winning streak. While the Falcons have run dead in their quest for the playoffs, they’re still going to do their best to end the season on a high note. Matt Ryan, who no longer has Calvin Ridley and Mohamed Sanu (the now Patriot) in the Falcon lineup, continues to average nearly 300 passing yards per game to go along with maintaining the ninth most passing TDs in the NFL (25). He has shown to be one of the more reliable quarterbacks in DFS this year. His favorite target, Julio Jones, has been red hot of late after a slow start to the season averaging an eye-opening 11.5 receptions, 150 receiving yards, and one TD reception per game in his last two games. Ryan and Jones are scheduled to go up against a team this week, Tampa Bay, that should help them score an ample amount of Fantasy points in Week 17 as they have struggled immensely against the pass. The Bucs rank as the third worst D in the NFL in passing yards against, and that’s why this matchup is predicted to be a shootout where both teams should be able to score a lot of points when it’s all said and done. This Atlanta wideout will cost you a fortune, but he’s still $1,400 cheaper than MT13 on DK, and presents enough upside to take shots on in your Week 17 tournaments.
RB | Marlon Mack with | Indianapolis Colts D/ST (GPP)
Marlon Mack is definitely a matchup dependent start, and this week will be no exception. Mack has done well mostly, if not all the time, in ideal matchups this season and his 102 rushing yards per contest in two out of his last four games continually prove that to be the case (he’s also had at least one TD in three out of his last four games). He will once again be fortunate enough to go up against a defense that does a very inadequate job at stopping the run, and that defense will consist of an unmotivated Jacksonville team this Sunday. The Jaguars rank as the second worst D in the league (tied with one other D) in rushing touchdowns against and they’re the fourth worst defense in the NFL in rushing yards against. This ‘back should have no problems putting up numbers that will justify his price tag which is not bad at all since it’s low mid-tier or mid-tier on DraftKings and FanDuel. His projected ownership percentage on both DFS sites is also very low. As for Indy’s D/ST, they’re also sporting a very low pOWN% on both DFS sites and while they’re priced a bit high on FanDuel, they’re not that costly on DraftKings. This D/ST also just scored a ridiculous 30 Fantasy points in Week 16 thanks to the five sacks, three INTs and two defensive TDs they has against the Panthers and they’ve averaged at least double-digit Fantasy points in four out of their past six games, so they should be able to hold it down pretty easily against the Jags this week and their less than stellar offense. Overall, this Stack is an ideal GPP play and if you build your lineup just right, it can be a solid Cash game start as well.
